Innocence Bruised

Innocence Bruised is a photography series that explores the harsh realities of childhood chronic pain through unsettling, dreamlike imagery. The series depicts stuffed animals, once symbols of comfort, placed in nightmarish scenarios that reflect the isolation and fear associated with living with chronic pain as a child. In one scene, nails are driven into the base of a chair, while in another, blocked-off stairs create a sense of entrapment. A tea party, where one cup is filled with pills instead of a treat, symbolizes the constant intrusion of medication into what should be a simple, joyful moment. Through these distorted, surreal scenarios, I aim to capture the emotional and psychological toll chronic pain can take on children, challenging the notion of childhood innocence and highlighting the resilience required to navigate such an experience.
